Self Storage Availability – Check First

One of the biggest mistakes that many people make when it comes to self storage is not checking first for availability. They may go through the process of finding a self storage unit facility near their home and they may even go visit the facility. They might also go all the as far as checking into the units themselves, but at no point in time will they look into the availability of the self storage facility.

Now, naturally, you would think that checking the availability would be the first thing to look into, but in many cases it is neglected all together. This can result in you not being able to access your unit when you need to.

As a general rule, most self storage unit facilities are open early in the morning and don’t close until late at night, however, that is not always the case. If you move your things into your new storage unit on the weekend, at say 11am, you may think nothing of it. Then, during the week, you go to get some things from your unit after work at say, 6 pm, only to find the self storage facility closes at 5 pm on weekdays.

An early closing may be no big deal for you if you are only storing your things for an extended period of time, but if you are using your self storage unit for excess inventory storage for your business, for example, then early hours can be a big deal. This is a problem easily solved.

Instead of simply assuming that the storage unit facility will be open early and closed late, ask. In fact, the first question you ask any prospective self storage unit facility should be, “What are your hours?” If the hours meet your personal needs, then go on with the rental process. If not, keep looking, there are plenty of self storage units to choose from.
