Boat and RV self storage is something that a majority of recreational vehicle owners will need to deal with at one point or another. There are a number of different options available and they all have their own costs and benefits to consider. You spend a lot of money on these pieces of equipment and there is nothing worse than having them damaged because they were stored improperly. With so many options available, it can be difficult to choose the right one. Here is a quick look at some of the most commonly used commercial options and what they have to offer.

Inside Boat/RV Self Storage

When it comes to inside boat/RV self storage there are several different options available. At the high end of the scale is the climate controlled self storage units. These not only have climate control, which is especially helpful if you live in a wetter area, but they also tend to be the most secure. When you are leaving your boat/RV in storage, security should be considered an essential issue to consider when making your decision. While this option may be the most secure and “best” in terms of protection, it is also the most expensive. However, when you consider the things that you don’t have to do such as winterizing your boat or RV this additional cost may not actually be that much.

Covered Boat/RV Self Storage

The next option is covered boat/RV self storage. This is right in between inside and outside self storage. Your boat/RV will still be facing the elements to an extent, the direct damage that can be caused by wind, hail, rain, and snow will be minimized. This tends to be a fairly inexpensive option. Some people will used covered boat/RV self storage in combination with a tarp or “storage bag”. This will add an additional layer of defense against the elements. Along with protection from the elements, you should also note any potential hazards such as animals, bugs, and weeds or grasses as well.

Outside Boat/RV Self Storage in US

Outside boat/RV self storage is always going to be the least expensive, however it also leaves your boat or RV the most exposed to both the elements and damage or theft. It also means that you will need to do the maximum amount of winterizing in order to keep it running smoothly. Not only do you need to create protection for all of the threats that you face with covered storage, but you must also deal with the direct weather damage. This not only comes from rain and snow but the wind and the sun as well.

While every US boat/RV self storage option has its own set of potential benefits and drawbacks, it is up to you to choose the right one. In the end, the trade-off tends to be money and preparation. The more you spend on storage, the less preparation or winterizing you will need to do. In the end, boat/RV self storage is something that you will have to take care of, which makes planning ahead essential. Otherwise you will be left scrambling for a piecemeal solution that will likely be inadequate.
